According to Fox 12 in Idaho, several residents mistook a meteor for a UFO.

Several residents all across the Northwest saw the meteor on Tuesday and flooded local police stations with reports of the sighting. But a surveillance video from the Idaho National Guard proved the sighting was just a space rock entering the Earth’s orbit.

According to the New York Times, the Air Force is now saying the spacecraft the people of Stephenville saw were 10 F-16 fighter jets doing routine training maneuvers over the city.

Of course, a lot of people aren’t buying the explanation. First of all, the Air Force changed their story more than a week later when they said there were no aircraft scheduled to fly over Stephenville that night. And secondly, many of the witnesses claimed the aircraft flew much closer to the ground.

According to the San Diego Union Tribune, the National UFO Reporting Center got a hot bed of reports around the recent New Year’s holiday.

The NURC said they got enough reports in one night to consider following them up with further investigations.

According to WRAL.com, it’s actually Venus.

Apparently, at this time of year, Venus can be highly visible with the naked eye and it’s often mistaken and reported as a UFO in the skies. It’s not uncommon that so many people may see it as a UFO since it’s the third brightest object in the sky.

According to the Herald Sun in Melbourne, the paper received a “flood” of phone calls about a UFO spotted in the skies earlier this week.

The story states witnesses described the mysterious object as “an amazing bright blue light in the sky with a long blue trail.” Members of the local Astronomical Society confirmed the object was just a meteor. Oh well, maybe next time.

According to Newbury Today, the newspaper received an anonymous package explaining the mystery.

The paper said the package contained a “UFO Hot Air Balloon,” which carries a lantern designed to trick people looking for UFOs late at night. Some of the people who spotted the mysterious lights don’t believe the balloons are the same thing.

According to a Gallup Independent, a glowing object found in the skies over Gallup, N.M. was actually a NASA experiment.

The newspaper claims NASA was testing a new high-altitude weather balloon to study surface temperatures on the sun and how those temperatures affect the Earth. Apparently, they caused people to see UFOs.

Specificially, they take down the famed “UFO Haiti” video caught supposedly by a passing tourist with a mini-camera.

They spotted several imperfections in the video and the story surrounding the video. The chief problems being that no one reported seeing a UFO in the area depicted in the video. They also claim it felt “too real” claiming that the video was able to track the object almost flawlessly. But the biggest giveaway were the trees. They apparently found two palm trees in the background that looked exactly the same. Gotcha.

According to the Aero News Network, it was actually just the landing gear door of a CRJ700 airplane from a United Airlines express plane.

So much for eBay. She could always sell it as an industrial strength paperweight.

According to Scientific American, so-called “lunar” UFO’s seen for centuries may actually just be “emissions of volcanic gas.”

Astrophysicist Arlin Crotts of Columbia University said he reviewed the evidence and found the areas of the moon where most of the UFOs were spotted are also emitting radon gas, which could explain the strange sightings.
