According to Fox 12 in Idaho, several residents mistook a meteor for a UFO.

Several residents all across the Northwest saw the meteor on Tuesday and flooded local police stations with reports of the sighting. But a surveillance video from the Idaho National Guard proved the sighting was just a space rock entering the Earth’s orbit.

According to the Washington Post, the reporter who covered the initial story and the second sighting has been fired.

The Empire-Tribune fired Angelina Joiner because she refused to back off of the UFO story. She told the Washington Post that she felt the story was important, even if some of the town’s “upper crust” were embarrassed by it.

According to the Independent, the Ministry of Defense released a report that shows UFO sightings are on the increase.

The numbers rose from 97 in 2006 to 135 in 2007 including three pilots who claim to have seen a flying saucer and a triangular shaped object in the skies.

According to the American Chronicle, a secret Joint Reconnaissance Study Group has been looking into the Phoenix UFO that’s been sighted off and on over the years several years.

So far they have many witnesses the confirm the object’s shapes and movements, but nothing that can explain what it might be other than a UFO.

According to the New York Times, the Air Force is now saying the spacecraft the people of Stephenville saw were 10 F-16 fighter jets doing routine training maneuvers over the city.

Of course, a lot of people aren’t buying the explanation. First of all, the Air Force changed their story more than a week later when they said there were no aircraft scheduled to fly over Stephenville that night. And secondly, many of the witnesses claimed the aircraft flew much closer to the ground.

According to the Associated Press, the citizens of Stephenville, Texas spotted a UFO and it’s gotten worldwide headlines.

Several citizens described it as a large silent object that flew low to the ground and had several bright lights. An Air Force spokesman said there were no aircraft scheduled to be in the area at the time of the sighting.

According to Reuters, Dennis Kucinich’s confirmation about his own UFO sighting prompted a panel of former pilots and government officials to start an investigation into UFOs.

The panel prompted the call for the renewal of the investigation to address safety and security concerns in the pre-9/11 world. A former Federal Aviation Administration investigator posed the question, “It’s a question of who you going to believe: your lying eyes or the government?”, according to the story.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the candidate confirmed his sighting during a debate.

His daughter’s godfather, Shirley MacLaine, first spoke about his UFO sighting in her book, and Kucinich confirmed it for a reporter. MacLaine said Kucinich reportedly described the UFO to her as a hovering, triangular shaped object.

According to WRAL.com, it’s actually Venus.

Apparently, at this time of year, Venus can be highly visible with the naked eye and it’s often mistaken and reported as a UFO in the skies. It’s not uncommon that so many people may see it as a UFO since it’s the third brightest object in the sky.

According to the Herald Sun in Melbourne, the paper received a “flood” of phone calls about a UFO spotted in the skies earlier this week.

The story states witnesses described the mysterious object as “an amazing bright blue light in the sky with a long blue trail.” Members of the local Astronomical Society confirmed the object was just a meteor. Oh well, maybe next time.
