USAF & National Guard pilots, who barely flew at more than 25,oooft (and never without oxygen) were unaware of the Navy secret Skyhook project. Mantell would have seen something large, silver & unfamiliar at an altitude way beyond his capabilities (100,000ft+). His fruitless pursuit without oxygen killed him.
